In late 2023, Tamil Nadu experienced severe flooding that left several villages in an unprecedented state of distress. Heavy rains submerged roads and homes, cutting off access to essential services and causing significant disruptions to daily life. Many families found it impossible to obtain food, water, or other necessities, as transportation routes were blocked and local markets were shut down.
Among the most affected were Kudankulam and Irrukkandurai, two villages where hundreds of households struggled to survive without access to even basic provisions for days. The situation grew critical, leaving families with no choice but to rely on external help.

To provide immediate relief, AIRD launched an emergency food donation initiative in both Kudankulam and Irrukkandurai. The operation, supported by local volunteers and partners, was carefully planned to ensure that essential supplies reached those in need as quickly as possible. AIRD distributed bags filled with essential food items, such as rice, lentils, oil, and cooking supplies, ensuring that families had the basic ingredients to prepare meals. This swift response was crucial in stabilizing the situation, preventing hunger, and helping families recover from the initial shock of the disaster.

Through this initiative, AIRD was able to bring relief and a sense of security to the families most affected by the floods. In times of such uncertainty, the presence of food and essential provisions provided not only nourishment but also comfort and reassurance. AIRD’s commitment to the well-being of these communities goes beyond this immediate intervention our efforts reflect a broader mission to stand by rural families in times of need.
This operation reaffirms our dedication to supporting and empowering vulnerable communities, ensuring they have the resources to rebuild their lives even after the harshest challenges.
