In our continuous efforts to improve healthcare access in rural areas, AIRD recently organized an eye screening camp in Seelathikulam. Many villagers in this remote community had been living with untreated eye conditions, often unaware of the severity of their issues. The camp was designed to identify and address vision problems early, preventing long-term complications and improving the quality of life for the participants.

At the Seelathikulam camp, a team of eye care specialists provided comprehensive screenings to villagers of all ages. The services included:
Vision assessments to identify refractive errors
Diagnosis of cataracts and chronic eye diseases
Distribution of free spectacles for those in need of corrective lenses
Additionally, individuals requiring further treatment, such as cataract surgery, were referred to nearby hospitals for follow-up care. The camp ensured that even those without access to regular medical facilities could receive the necessary care and advice.
The eye screening camp had a significant impact on the lives of the villagers. Many participants discovered previously undiagnosed conditions that were affecting their vision and everyday tasks. For children and older adults alike, access to proper eye care provided new opportunities for education and livelihood activities.
